Is the river current slow & steady and what happens when it is not?

Generally the river has a very slow current, but it can be fast enough to give inexperienced boaters a little challenge. One quickly understands that is a good idea to head upstream close to the inner part of a curving river where the water flows slower. And when the river is flowing too fast for seasoned boaters, we will cancel boat rides.
